Course Description

Masonry models are having a significant impact on both design and construction. LOD 350 unit based models allow for detailed studies of exact bonding and layout of masonry. Case studies using these models will demonstrate that both internal coordination with cell locations, rebar and in-wall utilities as well as external coordination with steel, mechanical and other trades can now be accomplished. Highly coordinated masonry models are now even accessible during design allowing for accurate wall layout, planning of openings and coordination with structural. Automated masonry sections, various bonding options at corners and even true masonry rendering with natural material ranges are all possible during design in Revit thanks to recent software advances.

Learning Objectives

  • Review case studies of how design decisions impact masonry construction
  • Identify ways that improper layout and fenestration for masonry increases waste
  • Improve detailing of masonry systems for improved masonry installation and quality
  • Optimize masonry wall design for lower cost and better performance
  • Recognize when and how masonry models can improve masonry construction.

Learning Units: 1 LU & 1 HSW credit
